Mike has invited me to do a webinar on trading psychology. In my work with traders, I find fear to be the number one psychological issue most traders have experienced, so I thought I would talk about fear in trading.
Everyone has it. Most traders say fear is the toughest emotion to control while trading. I find it leads to many problematic trading behaviors such as cutting winning trades short, jumping into unplanned trades, and hesitating to initiate trades, among others. Perhaps more than any other business, trading naturally prompts the fear response and traders need to learn how to handle fear.
This will be a focused discussion that includes cutting edge information and methods from the science of psychology that I am applying to trading and in my work helping traders. Although this will be more of an overview, you can expect to learn some useful information on this topic.
We will discuss:
What exactly happens when we are fearful and why it happens
How traders try to cope with fear and why common coping strategies routinely fail
Why attempts to control fear never work
Two important psychological concepts related to fear that traders need to know
One strategy that really does work and Ill show you how to do it
Steps you can take to constructively take control of the mental side of trading
If you have questions about the topic you can post them here and I will do my best to address them in the webinar. There will also be ample opportunity for you to ask questions during the discussion.
