Some of my best friends in Ecuador, who I met when I moved here, have started a charity called Feed Ecuador. Feed Ecuador is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit in the USA, and is focused on helping the needy communities of Ecuador, placing a high emphasis on local orphanages and foundations, as well as the elderly and single-mothered families.
Scott, Jane and Tanya Layman are some of the most generous, most kind people I've ever met, and are doing everything they can to help those struggling to survive in Ecuador. They moved here from The States in order to help those in need in Ecuador. Their charity is in the beginning stages and they are trying to build a self-sustaining farm to help feed those in most need.
They have already received a donation of a large acreage "farm" in the area of Pacoche, Manabi (20 minute drive from where I live in Manta). But this farm is currently non-operational, the land has been neglected for a few generations and is in need of a lot of work and contains virtually no livestock. They have volunteers to work the land, but need money for equipment, grow kits, livestock (chickens), and to make repairs to the existing barn.
You can find their website here, click their "Donate" button to donate via PayPal: Feed Ecuador
I am going to match 100% of all monies raised between now and the end of February, up to a maximum of $2,500. I really hope we can hit that goal as it will raise $5,000 which they desperately need. It is an ambitious goal, so I really, really need your help. Please help spread the word and please consider donating whatever you can to help.
Unusual not to see any posts on a thread started by Big Mike, especially for such a worthy cause.
I wouldn't normally post to say I had made a donation to charity but I have and hope others will too.
I did a small donation of 20 $ tonight. My wife has a business and one of her staff did actually immigrate here in Canada with her family from Quito, Ecuador. I will let her know tomorrow of this charity drive, maybe they will donate as well.
With your help, we raised $4,174 from futures.io (formerly BMT) members, plus $2,500 from me, for a grand total of $6,674.
I want to thank everyone for their generosity, the foundation is ecstatic to have received these funds from our charity drive and will be putting them to excellent use to help those in the most need.
There was one particular futures.io (formerly BMT) member who donated $2,500 of that $4,174 (well over half of what was raised), and I wanted to honor them for opening their heart so much. Thank you very much, @Dagonet.
