This is a suggestion that could potentially add a slightly different dynamic to futures.io (formerly BMT).

I really like the "thanks" button , it puts a nice positive spin on things and makes it more personal, to know that something written has been appreciated by someone.

When I was reading some of the journals sometimes I felt I would like to make a suggestion or perhaps question some of the thinking in terms of methodology or indicator used but didn't as at times I felt it could be taken in the wrong way, after all, this is a serious business. That's the tricky thing with text, sometimes you get crossed wires, I've seen it here before, something is said with the best of intentions but comes across in the wrong way, it gets lost in translation somewhat.

My girlfriend works for Apple and they have something that they call "Fearless feedback", that's where one colleague wants to say something to another that perhaps may not be something that they would want to hear, but could be of benefit to them.

Eg Lets say at a workplace, a member of the team, Joe, always goes for lunch at 1pm as they meet with a friend at that time every day. There needs to be lunch cover in the team everyday, and the rest of the team over time begin to harbor private resentful thoughts towards Joe, as their choice of lunch time is therefore restricted and they feel he is taking advantage of them. They don't say anything to Joe, as they don't want to upset him, or cause problems within the team, and Joe lacks awareness of the problem and carries on oblivious to the situation.

This is where Fearless Feedback becomes useful, as someone in the team can say, "Joe, can I give you some Fearless Feedback", they can then go on to explain the situation without fear of a negative reaction as everyone is aware of this Fearless Feedback concept and Joe is therefore primed to potentially hear something he may not like.


So I thought, could this also be useful here on futures.io (formerly BMT)? As a primer when you want to challenge or question others, but want to ensure it's read in a positive way and without it being taken in the wrong context?

It would be interesting to hear what others think. Do you think it could be of benefit? Could there be a Fearless Feedback button, or would it be sufficient to just say "Hey can I give you some Fearless Feedback?"?

Good idea . The most useful suggestions are the ones we may not like to hear but we know will benefit us .

Fearless Feedback works at Apple because they have a lot of women working there . Women can say that stuff and sound sincere. The problem is, other than Beth, how many women are on futures.io (formerly BMT)?

In Texas, women have been giving men Fearless Feedback for generations ... only they don't say Fearless Feed Back. They say "Bless your heart..." which translates to "You poor thing, your lack of ability is sad and therefore, it sucks to be you"

As in ;

Him: I have been working night and day to develop a new winning strategy.

Her : I know you have sweetie... Bless Your Heart.


Him: My system back tests well.

Her: Of course it does , honey... Bless your heart.


Just hope you don't hear Beth say, "I know you tried to start any interesting thread.... Bless your Heart" ....
