I am not against religion, as man cannot live without.

However, some of the different rules imposed by religion are similar to the case shown below.

U are right based on rational princinple . The fact is that religion is not rational but can be a way to encourage people to live together in harmony or to feel better .

I fully agree. But people have a hard time to accept that

- religion is mostly man made (I am talking about religion as a social animal that moderates our living together)
- that there is a market for religions
- that different religious beliefs are not naturally compatible

The Western cilivization is based on

- the freedom of speech
- separation of powers
- separation of state and religion

Some islamic states have none of them, Russia only has the last.

Islam was ways ahead of Christianity in the medieval ages. The Holy Roman Emperor Frederich II, born in 1194, was brought up in Sicily and fluent in Arabic. He benefitted from the education that he received from Sicilian scholars. By some measures he was the first genuine European, the Pope declared him AntiChrist.

Another guy who had Arab teachers was Fibonacci (son of Bonacci). His father had a trading business in Northern Africa (I think it was near Carthago) and the son got the education necessary to introduce Indian mathematics to Europe.

The question is not whether a religion can encourage people to live peacefully together, but whether there is something else (tolerance, a lawful society) that can encourage people with different religions to live peacefully together.

Hi, can you give clarifications about what makes you think there is freedom of speech separation of powers and institutions ?

Freedom of speech: Unlike Russia, China or Turkey, nobody is jailed in the Wetstern World just for having an opinion.

Separation of powers: This is always incomplete. It is about judges being independent from lawmakers and the politicians in charge. The degree of seperation of powers is different from county to country depending on the institutions.

I think the subject is too heavy to debate it here.

This is not true. You can go to jail in many western countries for expressing your opinion.

It merely depends on the specific opinion you are expressing.
