I've been emailing NT customer service back and forth since last week but nothing they have suggested is working to solve the issue.
So far I have done full maintenance on my XP machine, I have cleaned up the NT database, I have uninstalled and reinstalled IB and NT twice, and I've cut down on data demand by closing workplaces and charts. SOAB still crashes on me.
I've used NT6.5 for a few years without any issues, but I have reluctantly started to use 7.0 and it has been rewarding me by giving me the middle finger, so I went back to 6.5 and it too started crashing on me.
If anyone can offer any suggestions I'll take them gratefully, thank heaps.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
If you haven't tried already, you might try renaming the NT folders in the My documents folder after the next uninstall so that when you reinstall it is completely clean and don't copy over 6.5 historical data. Rename instead of delete in case it doesn't fix the problem. I have had problems that persisted from one installation to the next until I did that.
Also, it could be a custom indicator that you are installing that is causing it to crash. Use it for a while without custom indicators and see if it crashes or not. Then add 1 at a time and use for it a while after each one to see if one in particular is causing it to crash.
Also, it could be that you have a large number of custom indicators installed. I have added indicators and my system started crashing, but after removing several other indicators that I wasn't using anymore then it stopped crashing.
Are you able to reproduce the crash, I mean is it always crashing when you do action A then B then C ? Or is it random ?
I know NT is not perfect at all, but here it looks more than a problem with you XP installation than a NT specific issue.
Usually, removing everything and reinstalling Ninja solve most of the problems, so if you've already done that...
hi MrBean,
sorry, i have no solution especialy for you now.
but i like to explain the way i used do such things.
maybe this helps some guys to avoid such troubles in the future
my main point is : never change a running system !
before i do bigger maintenance on my working OS, i prefer buying a new harddisk for 50 EU and build up an OS brand new + clean.
that way i have always the old working + complete one if something runs grazy with the new installation.
the same way i will choose if i try out NT7 one day :
i not gonna install it on my working NT6,5 system / harddisk !
i will keep my old system on the old HD,
go + buy a new HD and start from scratch with a fresh + clean OS (windows) & NT7.
if i have a problem with NT7 or whatever i just can put in my old HD / system again + i am done - i can use it + trade because i didnt change it.
and i can work on the problem with the new one later and without any stress.
take it just as an alternative idea how it can be handled.
I trade on a mac pro and all ninjatrader / x-trader and other live/test systems are on a seperate virtual machine in parallels, if something happens I just re-copy that virtual machine over the broken one and I'm all set. Aren't people using Virtual machines on windows ? I don't understand.
Parallels is more stable than all the pure windows computers I had in my life.
