Was the coast to coast in a single vacation?

What does your special someone think of your trading?

Sent from my LG Optimus G Pro

It wasn't all in one vacation, but I did finally get to go to the west coast after going to many other states earlier in my life. She's supportive and understand that it takes time. I've tried to teach her how to trade many times but she says it makes her dizzy looking at the candle sticks. Sometimes I'll just ask her if price is going to go up or down and she'll ask to see a few time frames and then tell me. Surprisingly she's just about as good as I am, but she definitely a lot smarter and educated. I honestly think if she put her mind to it she could do it for a living.

No one wants to share I guess?

Your career, family, trading, personal goals, nothing?

Mike

1. Quit smoking in February...still chewing lol
2. Reached my first, annual salary goal from my job ....almost... $200 shy lol
3. Wife and I got into our first house.

@Big Mike, if you don't mind my asking where are you planning on retiring outside the US?

Happy New Years Eve to everyone. I wish everyone a successful 2014!

It was pretty simple. I did a lot of research about different things and I kept seeing sugar as a culprit. So I eliminated sugar along with all its derivatives. Anything that ended in "ose". Anything with syrup including those nice new vegan sounding "pure came or pure rice syrup or really anything at all that sounded like sugar.

This was tough but not impossible. I even found bread with no sugar in it.

Secondly I got rid of most of the red meat. Replaced it with turkey and chicken but even that has been reduced quite a bit.

And lastly, got rid of most fried food.

That's it. I did and still do some walking but not as much as I should. The heart docs recommend an hour a day of brisk walking as the bed over all exercise for the heart and that's on my 2014 list as well.

I've eaten sugar around the holidays but in very small quantities and I've only gained 2 pounds since thanksgiving.

I'm investigating the Mediterranean diet now on the advice of my heart doc as a long term eating solution.

Hope that helps.

First and foremost, congrats on surviving and learning from it.

I switched to a mostly alkaline diet two months ago and lost 20 useless lbs in that time. As you did, I cut out all sugar, wheat, white flour in anything, beef, pork, all dairy except natural yogurt, coffee, tea and anything highly acidic. I eat lots of raw foods, nuts, wild pacific salmon by the ton, free range chicken and eggs, brown rice by the bucket, even got an alkaline water purifier, and I am amazed at the difference in my health and mental sharpness. Of course when I was young and invincible, it didn't matter but now ......

I lost my mom this past summer, and it hurt to see what she went through at the end. My dad still won't listen even after 2 hip and a knee replacements. Then my hip started giving me trouble, and I could barely put on my socks. What a wakeup call. Life is the sum of the choices you make, and I am going to fight tooth and nail to have a better quality of life.

My biggest accomplishment, which has really smoothed out my trading, is finding the futures.io (formerly BMT) community as my main resource. The generous teaching here has brought about a maturity in my trading that shows up in my monthly summary sheets. I am more patient, calm, and confident in my trading than ever. I have come to realize that my learning curve, which I though was really slow, is actually awesome for me. I have settled into a style that I am really comfortable with, and the best part, it works for me.

I am already excited to see what 2014 will bring because 2013 was awesome.

I've been saying that 2013 was very tough year for me, glad it's over. There was some very stressful and negative stuff that occurred in the Fall of 2013, and kind of put a cloud over the image of whole year. But looking back now, I see that there was a lot of positive.

Some major things occurred.

1. Got a whole body checkup including CT calcium scan and brain MRI, carotid ultrasound, etc. The result is I know precisely where my cardio health stands, and I am not needlessly worrying about my health any more. (if you haven't had a calcium scan, you should do it). I also got genetic tests.

2. Significantly improved my relationship with my wife and business partner by focusing on avoiding conflict. No fighting. And on the other hand, I finally resigned myself or accepted the fact that certain things are the way they are and that's just what it is. "The things I cannot change."

3. I focused on smiling and spending as much time as possible with my kids. I think the relationship was improved, especially with the elder daughter, who is now becoming a teenager.

4. Having lost about 40 pounds in 2011, I kept the weight off again in 2013, no rebound. Keeping it off is just as hard as losing it, if not more so. I stayed on my "no white carbs" diet, mostly, and I did some weight training.

5. Finally fulfilled a long-held dream of joining the local marine sports club, and went out sailing a number of times, including with my kids.

6. Finally fulfilled a long-held dream of learning how to surf, during my first trip to Hawaii (which I really enjoyed).

8. Finally got back on the bike and went cycle touring, for the first time in 20 years.

7. Finally got my hands on my inheritance money, and managed not to blow it up in the market. Actually, I figured out a sane way to invest the bulk of it.

8. Decided to make an all-out effort over the next five years to learn how to trade, starting with a focus on my attitudes to money. Started my futures.io (formerly BMT) trading diary.

9. Finished my epic deck construction project here at the house. Actually, I still have to stain the railing, but that's about it. This deck is supported by a steel space frame that floats out into space, and it was a good opportunity for me to learn how to weld. I am now one welding mofo.

10. Completed my two-year term on the co-op board. It was very, very tough, and although the position, secretary, was one that I am not really suited for, I managed to do a pretty good job for the most part, despite some very trying circumstances. Next, I committed to taking on a three-year term as Treasurer, which makes me responsible for a huge amount of funds, and also the huge tasks of switching our accounting over to J-GAAP and deploying a whole new accounting system. Another role that is out of my comfort zone.

11. Did all the groundwork for incorporating my business, and for setting up a limited partnership for my funds. Now all that remains is to sign the paperwork and pay the fees.

12. Did more reading than in any year since college, and started playing computer games.

And the goals for 2014? I am making a public commitment here:

0. Be of service (my ongoing general life goal)

1. Get my investment partnership operational.

2. Continue my futures.io (formerly BMT) trading diary for one more year.

3. Get my business incorporated and get website running.

4. Work harder on the younger child's English with more time on task.

5. Send the older child abroad to work on English.

6. Get both kids into aikido class.

6. Learn wind surfing and go surfing and sailing once a week during the season.

7. Purchase that other cabin & fix roof.

8. Completely finish construction on old cabin.

9. Deploy major new computer application in my business.

10. Continue to maintain my weight and increase the workouts.

11. Maintain the peaceful relationship with my wife.

12. Play computer games as much as possible!

13. Up my cooking skills by learning 10 of the recipes in Gordon's Ultimate Cookery.

14. Get the yard cleaned up and get rid of all the construction garbage.

15. Get those two last bedrooms livable (heh, this seems like an impossible dream)
