I always listen to music while trading, provided it's not something extremely distracting. I usually have iTunes playing from my non-trading computer (MacBook connected to stereo). It definitely keeps me lively and sharp.

On the lighter side to this, here's a link to a funny, 40 minute compilation of all the best '80's montage/tough guy movie songs ever. Just imagine climbing out of a losing trade listening to the empowering motivational speech of Rocky Balboa (minute 10:42) Lol! It's hilarious if you enjoyed the music of the '80's (I sure do). You can click on the download button on the top of the player and it will load straight into your iTunes.

All the best,
PB

  • What kind of music/bands do you like to hear while trading, if any?
  • Do you like, turning the news on, and listen as a background?
  • Do you have any feed from a certain trading room, or floor?
  • Does Granma chatting with your neighbours calm you enough to make your mind at ease while trading?
  • Do you enjoy sweet silence to hear your own toughts?
  • Do you have a mood-setting ritual prior to start trading, or do you just sit at the pc and work to whatever's on TV?
  • Have you even ever tought about this? how the athmosphere set could affect your trading performance, and how you could enhance it?
  1. Always music i know, so that i wont listen concentrated to it. mainly club music without speech it gives me a sort of basic rhythm.
  2. News is more of a distraction, but 5 mins for a big report i turn bloomberg on or when there`s no speed in the markets.
  3. no trading rooms or floor, mainly typing a bit in the chatroom here, that protects me from overtrading and keeps me sharp.
  4. No, i`ll start listening if its interesting or not.
  5. No, but i don't like other sounds than the music, there for i have in-ear headphones
  6. nope, but when i`m not feeling that much happy i`ll watch an episode of a comedy series first.
  7. Yes, i like to get out of bed and sit straight behind the screens with my breakfast so i don't have to talk or be influenced by others in the house

I listen to faster paced stuff like techno when i am in a groove trading, If i get sloppy and make some losing trades i listen to some reggae to slow down and focus.

  • What kind of music/bands do you like to hear while trading, if any?
Not while trading, I like them all from Classical to Hard Rock, but where I'm at in life now, I listen to smooth jazz, like Diana Krall and Nora Jones. I'm listening to her as I type.

No.

No.

Grandma is with the Lord.
  • Do you enjoy sweet silence to hear your own toughts?
Yes, and I also talk out loud as well
  • Do you have a mood-setting ritual prior to start trading, or do you just sit at the pc and work to whatever's on TV?
Not mood but a ritual...shower the night before, wake up prior to market open, piss, shit, brush fangs, wash face (of course I washed my hands after I did number 2), get my pot of coffee, get my oatmeal with raisins, take my vitamins, set up my system....ta-da

Yes, I am always dreaming of my dream office with a sexy assistance giving me relaxing neck and back rubs while I sit for hours making money in the market.

I just put a pair of headphones on, I use to listen to the pit noise (for ES) but it got to the point where it made me to indecisive. Now I just put Pandora on. It deff helps, because it keeps me from over thinking. When I sit here with nothing playing I start over analyzing. Music distracts me just enough to where I can pull the trigger without thinking to much.
To me, it's like golf. If you get up to the ball, and think to much about shanking it, chances are you are going to.

Cool thread; I'll share.
  • What kind of music/bands do you like to hear while trading, if any?
Winamp with professional equalizer & 5 speakers & subwoofer. 'Chillout ambient Psych/Drone Zone/Ambient Psych' etc...

NO words, slow beats; trance to ambient 60+ minute mixes.

No mainstream music.
  • Do you like, turning the news on, and listen as a background?
Never turn the t.v. on; charts tell me everything I know. I am aware of major reports though.
  • Do you have any feed from a certain trading room, or floor?
No.
  • Does Granma chatting with your neighbours calm you enough to make your mind at ease while trading?
I work in my basement by myself; never a single interruption whatsoever.
  • Do you enjoy sweet silence to hear your own toughts?
Yea; my motto is don't sweat me while I am working in my 'war room.'
  • Do you have a mood-setting ritual prior to start trading, or do you just sit at the pc and work to whatever's on TV?
Alot of Wayne Dyer audio stuff, Brian Tracy, etc...to get postive for the session. Before she leaves for work (early a.m.) I like to have the chick I live either jerk me off quickly or let me deposit a quick load before she showers; to let the poison out for the day.
  • Have you even ever tought about this? how the athmosphere set could affect your trading performance, and how you could enhance it
I'm good with my routine; it works and is predictable and I am always ready for the session. If anything is wrong with me physically or mentally; I don't trade.

peace

Didn't know there are so many music lover here. LOL

Recently I want back to basic and started listening to Vinyl that have a complete superior quality to CDs. Especially now that they have the 180 and 200 Gram records where Jazz sounds awesome on.
Found this little site where you can get most of your vinyl: Vinyl Records | Vinyl Record Albums | Vinyl LP Records - SoundStage Direct

I'm currently really into 90s David Bowie.
‪David Bowie - 7 Years in Tibet (great live ver)‬‏ - YouTube

‪I'm Deranged. David Bowie soundtrack "Lost Highway" 1997‬‏ - YouTube

I'm trying to get back into vinyl too...I have a decent jazz fusion collection that I got all from thrift stores in the 90s.
I think the music business ultimately needs vinyl to inject some money back into the music economy.

It will just take time though as I've looked into what it takes to press an album and it is pretty brutal if you want to do small runs.
