I have used emwave, light and sound machine (photosonix) , binaural beats, neuro feedback, hypnosis, energy healing, NLP, meditation , the whole package !!

Here is the simple truth that I learned, most of the time I was obsessed to "be in the zone" or keeping the mind quiet or weeding out all the negative thoughts etc. True, they aid in conditioning and making one aware of breathing BUT anything more will be another way to manufacture "stress". Key is in understanding that thoughts and feelings are temporary and one have to learn to let them gently pass. It doesnt matter how long your mind was quiet or how many thoughts you had, just sit with no judgment and let it go while in meditation. Learn the simple technique for mindfulness meditation which is to "just sit" and watch your breath or any other anchor ( idea is to enhance the metal faculty of observer) .

Bottom-line is, be in touch with your feelings and emotions, dont depend on a machine to tell you about your emotional state. Use the gadgets to train during your free time , it is helpful and lot of fun .

Thanks for sharing - that's a great article and it has an important point: There’s no zone for new activities.

I remember years ago I used to love playing this first-person shooter game. After many many hours of fun/practice, I remember that one day I realised as I was playing I got in the zone. Everything was just flowing so naturally.

But it's true, it requires the subconscious to do its part, which means hours and hours of practice.

Great reminder

@Adamus

I came to this thread from @xplorer 's thread on trading psychology (Mark Douglas) and from that thread went to a youtube video by a fellow who is trained in neurophysiology. (Andrew Menaker)

He gives several points which apply to your question - though rather - how to be ready - versus testing your readiness.

He tells you several things to help you be ready physically: diet, sleep, water
(I was shocked to hear you say you didn't know how many hours sleep you have had - so I have a strong schedule with a bedtime on work days (trading days) and an alarm (at 4am) and a schedule of things to do before open.)

So should you watch the video points to pay attention to:
1. caring for your body - nutrition
2. framing

I found the video very useful.

how did your machine pan out?

..........
peace, love and joy to you

I know my mental state pretty much by the time I've finished the first trade, but that can be an expensive way to find out - if I wasn't doing it in sim.

Perhaps it's simplistic but if by the end of the first trade you're going to know your mental state, how about starting the day with a sim trade.
