I see the thank you button as a Tip-for-Tat mechanism to foster cooperation. Personally i would prefer to see a thankyou counter and not see the name of those who clicked the thank you button.
However, if the thank you button had a monetary value attached to it then seeing the name of those who clicked the button would make sense. For example, each time we would click the TY button 25 cents or whatever amount would go to a charity organisation.
I give thanks as appreciation and as a courtesy. I think it would be helpful if we had another set of options to click on that say "I Agree" or "I disagree".

If I go past the first line, good or bad, the post deserves a thank for at least stimulating my brain.
But, the following is a recent page of my trading diary and my perspective, just copied and pasted here:

We all need some levity…
My wife was asking the other night: you spend so much time on computer but you trade only few hours, how come? I said well I do post on my Gradient thread and it takes time. So, she looks at the last page on my screen and says who reads this crap? I said well, some do, look almost 50,000 views. She looks again and says wow… you have written over 1900 posts for that? I said yes but I don’t count. Then she says and you got over 4000 thanks. I said yes, isn’t that nice, people appreciate good information?
She grabbed her 72-once water container takes a sip and responds: 50,000 views and only 4000 thanks? That is 1 viewer out of 13. It means the other 12 viewers don’t give a crap. I never get that many thanks for cooking once a week and having to put up with our stupid maid. So, why would you keep writing posts and cutting into my time?
I could imagine where this conversation is going to end up so reluctantly said: well, it keeps me motivated to trade and make money. I don’t need thanks from anyone, remember I paid for my kids’ college and they never thanked me for that. She reached for her iPad and said that is OK, I can’t even pickle those thanks you are getting. But, I for sure can spend the money you are making. Then as she is walking out of my office and punching on her iPad, says "OK, you are excused but don’t forget I need to send a deposit soon for our next trip to South America. Oh, and by the way, don’t forget we have a date tonight."

I'll admit I thanked your post before I read it in part because it was long, almost a tl:dr jk jk. But then I figured you deserve to be read since you posted on my thread so I read. I'd give you a double thanks if it existed. My girlfriend says that I spend too much time on the forum compared to how much time I trade but I tell her the market doesn't move that fast. Oh well, looks like we all have the same problems on here. They don't know commiserating helps the soul get through staring at the screen for countless hours. We can only hope we get more out of it than we put in and we do.

It's funny how no one mentioned the ratio of thanks given to thanks received. I would have thought someone would have made the connection between this ratio and their trading expectancy.
