I've been using Renko bars in this same way (i.e....

I've been using Renko bars in this same way (i.e. defining my risk easier). I often use stop/limit orders on that opening bar knowing it's 1 tick more. It' provides a lot of clarity I think.

I prefer to have 3-5 times the range on the larger chart compared to the smaller...

I must say I had never used any form of Renko chart until I saw them on this forum about a week ago. Most of what I do had been confined to tick/range charts ( 15/1hr/4hr for currency...
