I generally keep Gateway towers for 6-7 years. Haven't had one die since 2005. Traded last two out for faster models.

I use 2 computers, 3 monitors, one mouse and keyboard. I use Synergy program to allow one mouse and keyboard for both computers.

Each is backed up to the other twice a day. So if one goes down I don't miss a beat.

Also have a Sony Vaio that can be used when on vacation.

I use 2 computers, 3 monitors, one mouse and keyboard. I use Synergy program to allow one mouse and keyboard for both computers.

I looked at that yesterday, and downloaded onto one computer, but it came with so much other crap I stopped and went out to buy a USB switch instead.

Have you used it for very long, and do you have any issues with it? It seemed like a cool tool.

I have Synergy installed at work to control a mac laptop on a shelf above the monitor with my windows pc. Works great, I just move the mouse to the right and I am in the laptop. I donated to get the premium version. What crap do you mean it comes with?

As far as replacing computers it has been around 6 years for desktop workstations, and around 4 years for laptops. Though if it gets unbearably slow before that it gets changed at that time.

I have used it for at least 5+ years. Took a little bit to get setup. But once setup, no problems since. Works great. I have it on Windows 7 now.

MySearchDial, OpenIt, FREEGames... those shortcuts made it to my desktop even after I had thought I deselected everything. I did not mind to pay for the program, but since they offered a free version I wanted to see it first. But I guess the default $1 is not a dealbreaker for a test.

I run 3 monitors on one and two on the other, does that sound like something it is capable of?

It has been a while since I downloaded the program so I didn't know they added other stuff.

You should email them and tell them you almost didn't use the program because of the stuff that came with it.

If you decide to use the program send them more than the one dollar. I sent them $30. Read Nick's story to see what he is doing and why he needs the money.

I run 2 monitors on one computer and one on the other and it handles that fine. You are just adding one more monitor per computer. Shouldn't be a problem.

That's weird... I just re downloaded and re installed it, there were no options during installation. No additional programs were installed. I installed the Windows 1.4.15 Beta: 32-bit
Synergy - Download

Yeah it should work fine with your setup. I have 3 monitors on my pc, and just the one on the laptop. You can select the layout to configure where the mouse goes into the other computer.

Thanks for the info. I messed with it, and it is a cool program. I decided to go all in and buy a new unit that supports the number of monitors I want (or may want), but if not for that I would go for Synergy. Very cool.

I was messing around behind my computer plugging in a 16 foot long monitor cord because It sounded like a good size and I realized every time I started up my computer and then rattled the wires my computer would power off. I didn't know which wire it was since there is literally a jungle of wires but I found out with some quick logic that the power cord was faulty, something I bought about 6 months ago. My headphone wires sometimes turn off one speaker when I rattle the cords. I think in general wires go quickest both inside and outside the computer, but probably more outside. The saying holds true - shit happens. I clamped down my heat sink with such pressure because it wouldn't fit any other way and it's held up ( there's probably over 5 pounds of pressure on the cpu alone but I have a hunch that might be a good thing considering most worries come from lack of pressure. ) Anyways the better question is how often do you have to replace or fix body parts after sitting in front of the computer for frequent lengthy durations. I sit about a yard in front of this 37 inch monitor that's supposed to be a tv and I can tell my eyes are shot. So I have to turn down the backlight, contrast, and brightness while trading because I got a permanent floater the other way. Oh well, I take it like the toothless trophy a hockey player would cherish.
