Hey guys.

My CPU (i5) is really being pushed with all the data I'm receiving and of course all the crap that's working behind the scenes doesn't help.
I've been trying to disconnect all background applications but it's way too difficult.

So I'm thinking installing a clean Windows where the only thing to be installed would be the broker and the chart platform and then on a second partition I would install Ubuntu for everything else, namely browsing, email, movies...

Question is if this is a good solution.
One thing that I'm not fond off is the fact that doing, only having Windows for trading , I won't be able to use Snagit to capture images and do some videos and would no longer be able to use iDrive to backup my data directly since I would't install nothing else in it, not even an anti-virus/firewall.

Any thoughts on this?

Maybe time to build a new system? If you prefer things the way they are, just upgrade to a better i7.

I'm honestly surprised an i5 is giving you trouble just because of trading, I have like 40 charts open in Sierra right now, plus DOM's, plus like 30 tabs in Chrome, email, and often play a video or whatever in background at same time... and rarely see more than 10% CPU average.

I have a fast i7 but it isn't 10x faster than an i5...

Hey guys.

My CPU (i5) is really being pushed

How sure are you it's CPU bound and not memory or disk bound?

That was my initial thought, buy an i7 CPU since my MB is compatible with it but it's socket 1156 and in my country it's no longer available.

I have 18 charts, 2 DOM's, and if the market is on fire I can have my desktop like this

I have 12gb of memory and a SSD drive (120gb).

Wow, definitely surprises me you'd have trouble with an i5. Maybe you are running really heavy indicators or something? And I remembered just now you use MultiCharts not Sierra, that is probably a reason for the difference as well.

I always look for excuses to buy new hardware, so if you are looking for permission -- my advice is build a whole new machine!

Yes, MC is way more "heavy" than Sierra on CPU and memory usage.

Yes, I too am always trying to find excuses but I'm also trying to change that habit

Also, at the moment I'm finding more interesting to test the software side of things then the hardware.

Wow, something wrong in an indicator I presume, an i5 should not be that busy with your setup.

Yes, I've been thinking about that also...
