I do have a Dell workstation, but it is running with two NVS 285 video adapters and three monitors, so I cannot help you.

The only thing that came to my attention: Neither the T3500 Technical Guide nor the T5500 Technical Guide lists the NVS 420 as one of the supported options. This raises some questions. Did you buy the NVS 420 directly from Dell?

Yes, it was one of the options that was available when selecting the cards in the Dell customization/ordering process.

Interesting. It sounds like the monitor may be switching resolutions on you, but the fact it is happening on different physical monitors would rule out a bad cable/bent pin, etc.

Drivers are likely the culprit since it's about the only thing you haven't changed at this point. So, I think installing Windows 7 x64 is a good idea --- welcome to the future --- and has a good chance of solving the issue since the drivers will be an entirely different code base than XP.

If it is a hardware problem, it is Dell's problem and not yours. If it is a problem in setting up the machine correctly, it might be your problem. Did you check the Internet, whether there are others having the same experience?

Also I think @Big Mike's proposal make sense.

Thanks! That makes sense. There must be some sort of issue with XP x64 and the drivers because I did attempt to uninstall the drivers and re-install the ones available from Nvidia's website. This actually made it worse which made me go back to the original drivers from Dell's website. I'm very hopeful Windows 7 x64 will do the trick!

Thanks again!

Yes, I googled this problem and other users have had the same issue but I couldn't find a definite solution. I even checked Nvidia's user forum. Nothing definitive there either.

I got my fingers crossed for Windows 7 x64!

Reading the previous posts I was looking to buy 3 NVS295 cards.
On Amazon I found the following NVS295 cards.
$ 91.45 HP
$ 139.99 PNY

I can't see any difference between them. .... besides the price.

Do you see any reason to not grab the cheaper HP version?

@Big Mike had purchased some of them at less than half that price, but I do not remember the thread, where he had posted it.

Thanks for the tips.

I got three! NVS295 cards for the grand total of $ 29.97 from Ebay.
According to the seller .. from unused Dell workstations.

But as long as they work... I won't complain for that price.
