The fella that calculated this did it back in 1994 also. When nothing happened he re-calculated.
But he's just plain wrong again. Everyone knows it's over in 2012 ...
This of course is based on the fact that the Mayan's Calendar only goes to 2012 and that means they were predicting the end of the world.
I think the conversation went more like, ".... Huk Tsuk, all you do is work on that damn calendar... you're already up to 2012... give it a rest... do something useful ... like fixing the roof... etc....

The Mayan calendar ends because of the cosmic alignment with the Milky Way.
Although I don't think the world will "end" there are some strange physical things afoot. Like the shift in the magnetic poles and all that scientists think that entails.
There are several cutlures predicting the end of the world "as we know it" in 2012, which given any number of scenarios is completely possible.
People are devoid of the knowledge that a volcano eruption could alter our climatology for decades....an asteroid or planetoid striking the earth.....solar flares and electromagnetic destruction of our electrical infrastructure could turn us back to the 19th century very quickly....
When you stop and think about it, Katrina taught us a lot...it taught us that we're literally a few days without utilities from being in the stone ages....looting, raping, shooting at aircraft....
What if you didn't have electricity for a month....or running water...or gasoline.....or if there were no grocery store to buy food from....could you survive? Would you be willing to defend yourself? Could you defend yourself? Would you be willing to rob others to survive?
I don't think the world is going to "end" but I do think the prospects of it ending "as we know it" may not be likely but they're certainly possible. I'm not losing sleep over it, I'm not moving to a cabin in Montana anytime soon, but I definitely think it's possible.
Nostradmus made a bunch of predictions. I bought into one back in the 90's. I was reading a book of his predictions in a public library and I forget the day but he predicted a huge earthquake that would essentially destroy California. It would be like some apocalypse shit where there would be a complete breakdown of society and the survivors would migrate to the eastern states. To make matters worse, the date of the prediction was only 2 fucking weeks away from the day I was reading it! Ahhhhhhh.
I was 14 at the time and took it all very seriously. I desperately warned all my friends and family but no one believed me. So I made myself a survivor kit and stocked some weapons, haha. And on the day of the predicted quake I went to the middle of a huge field and began the countdown.
Well as you all know, CA is still around. I stayed in the park until night. When I came home my family laughed their asses off at me, haha. I felt like an idiot. But it was even worse when I got to school the next monday. Oh man.
Ever since then I've never believed any of those "predictions" hah. Silly stuff. It's always something new that's gonna end the world. Yeah yeah.
