Is it possible to use Ninja trader 7 for trade execution and charts with Interactive Broker (I have a Ninja Trader license already)?
Also, can I use DTN IQ feed or Kinetick (Kinetick is a re-branded DTN IQ feed for Ninja Trader use only) with IB?
I don't like IB trading platform and I don't like their feed as I need to do market delta bid/ask analysis. I just want to use IB for their futures offering, especially asian futures.
If I can use NT7 and my own feed, then I would be ok.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
Yes, although honestly this seems backwards to me... ? But yes.
No, I assume you mean TWS - and no, you can't use another data feed within TWS.
Solution is straightforward. Find a charting and execution platform you like that supports executing orders via IB (as a broker). Get reliable data from a good data feed provider like DTN. Don't use TWS.
-> You can use DTN IQ feed or Kinetick with NinjaTrader and Interactive Brokers. To do this you will first-connect NinjaTrader to DTN IQ feed or Kinetick. Then you will second-connect NinjaTrader to Interactive Brokers. In this case all the data used by NinjaTrader for charting and displayed on the DOM is DTN/IQ or Kinetick data. All trades will be executed through Interactive Brokers.I have tested this, it works very well.
-> If you want to trade Asian futures, DTN/IQ is not of a great help, as they only offer data for SGX(Singapore International Monetary Exchange) and MDEX (Bursa Malaysi Derivatives), but they do not have data for the larger exchanges in China, Hong Kong, Japan and Korea.
Can you please clarify when you say it seems backwards to you?
The idea is to use NT with IB, not TWS.
Hi Fat Tails,
Good spot, I did not notice Kinetick had a very limited range of Asian exchanges available. It's really bad news because I was looking to trade the Nikkei Mini from Osaka in Japan. There's a Nikkei on SGX too, but it has larger contract value so I am not sure it would suit my account size, will need to have another look.
Also, Kinetick ask for another $20 for market depth. Honnestly, I could not trade without market depth on the NT DOM but at the same time I would prefer not paying these monthly $20. Is it possible to use Kinetick for charts and market delta bid/ask analysis (i.e. market depth not needed for this) and use the broker feed for execution and have the broker feed to populate the NT DOM.
Ideally, I would be using the free broker feed for execution and depth of market on NT DOM and Kinetick for charts and Bid/ask analysis? Is it possible to segregate both feeds, and say: "I want feed number 1 to do this and feed number 2 to do that"?
That is not possible. NinjaTrader will select from the first feed whatever is availble. If Kinetick is your first feed, real-time data will be loaded from Kinetick. This includes data displayed on the DOM, market depth and your charts.
As Kinetick does not provide lots of Asian markets, I may stick with ES even for the night session.
I looked at ES at night and it looks great because:
1) I like slow moving markets, ES moves more slowly than 6E (6E is the EUR / USD future)
2) It has more volume traded than 6E (even during the night session) and the spread bertween bid and offer looks better also.
I am just figuring out that ES might be the best option to trade at night...
As ES is moving slowly and with less volume than during the night session, can a broker feed like TT with velocity futures do the trick for market delta bid/ask analysis?
For sure duing the day, the news, the high volume during the day session, if the volume suddenly takes off, I am sure a broker feed cannot cope for bid ask analysis, what about the night session, would a broker feed be ok when the volume is lower and market is slow?
I've already written half a dozen posts on this topic so I am not going to elaborate again, but I had serious order execution problems with that combo over approximately 12 months. I kid you not, numerous, serious heart attack inducing problems.
I re-read your post, and I see now I misunderstood what you said. I read your sentence to say that you wanted to use NinjaTrader to execute, and IB (TWS) for charts. I said that seems backwards. But now that I re-read your post, I see you said you want to use NT for execution and charting, and just use IB as your broker.
Yes you can do this, IB is a good broker, especially for equities traders.
