I have spent a lot of time recently researching the ES and what the best platform to trade it would be. Who the best data provider is and much of the other information necessary to get starting in futures. Occasionally I would come across posts where someone said I wish I had known about forex when I got started. It would have been a lot cheaper to learn then futures. I did a little of my own research on forex but found that the primary complaint was commissions and slippage. I just wonder what your perspective is.
I recently watched an Al Brooks webinar and in it he mentions that beginners might be best served focusing on something different than the ES. Specifically he mentioned some ETF's and I wondered if someone could explain why that would be better and cheaper to start with than futures? Is following an ETF identical to following the ES? He didn't mention forex but I wondered if that is something I should look at. I have an IB account right now with 20K and plan on raising it up a bit in case I need to deal with PDT rules.
Thanks.
