Hello,

I am looking for ways to improve strategy optimization run times, I currently only have 8GBb RAM in my system, and am wondering if there would be any benefit to maximising the RAM to 32GB (the max my motherboard can take).

I realise there may be other ways to improve the optimization, just curious if the extra RAM would help?

Thanks,

Only if you're already running 64 bit Ninja and you can still see Ninja hard-faulting in the Task or Resource Manager.

Ok, Ill check for page faults tonight, not sure if this is an issue or not.

I am running 64 bit NT, RAM & processor usage when running an optimisation are about 80%, processor maybe a bit more

Worth a quick check and a look at the overall system RAM use but if the cpu usage is that high I doubt it's hard-faulting much.

You can ignore any high soft-fault count or delta, that will always be true of OO style software.

I have 32gb on my trading workstation and even with 40 charts open in Sierra Chart the memory consumption is barely 1GB. Not sure about NT but going to 32GB is likely overkill, I did it because I could not because I really needed it.

Chrome takes more memory than Sierra.

Mike

Thanks Mike, I think in general NT system consumption is quite low when I just have charts open and am connected to the exchange.

I am looking for ways to speed up optimisation runs, memory is relatively cheap right now, so my thought was that if more ram resulted in a faster optimisation, then I would be inclined to make the purchase.

8GB is more than enough... I've run NT without problems when traveling in a 4GB notebook.

Their minimum system requirements is 2GB:

If your running a 32 bit OS then it will only recognize 4GB regardless of how much you put in there. In order to take advantage of memory greater than 4GB you need to be running 64 bit OS.

I think this should be enough computer memory. Although, more computer memory is almost always better !
