Tradestation users - Quick Question ($VALTRINIC vs $TRINIC)
Hi folks using Tradestation. If aware would you be kind to let me know what is the difference between $VALTRINIC and $TRINIC. This comes from Tradestations calculated symbol list.
Trying to basically understand whats the difference between the Value Based Arms and Arms index calculations. Whats the difference when looking at it from a wholistic point in calculation.
$TRINIC is defined as Dow 30 Traders Index (Arms) Composite
Formula:- (($ADVI / $DECLI) / ($UVOLIC / $DVOLIC + 1))
Exchanges/Entitlement Required: NASDAQ & NYSE
$VALTRINIC is defined as Dow 30 Value-based Traders Index (Arms) Composite
Formula:- (($ADVI / $DECLI) / ($UVALIC / $DVALIC + 1))
Exchanges/Entitlement Required: NASDAQ & NYSE
thnx
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
did not check with Tradestation as did not find the time. Will update if i talk to Data Integrity dept. busy right now....maybe later. But am almost sure its some code which is not correct and hence useless to me now.
For now not using this VALTRIN. Yes can calculate independently of what TS gives....but its a headache and a ton of work.
VALTRIN reports a value of Zero "0" which is not possible. This was popping up an alert during periods of extreme volatality. However we know we cannot have values of 0. It can be negative but not a single millisecond where values for instruments or indexes are zero.
I know this is an old post, but seems the question was never answered. Found the link below doing a web search for how to do NASDAQ 100 (Composite) TRIN ($TRINC/Q in ThinkorSwim) in TradeStation. Doesn't seem to be a symbol for the composite only the entire NASDAQ version ($TRINQ in TradeStation). Then came here to see if anyone here knows.
Seems the $VALTRIN calculations divide by value of the shares bought and sold, rather than volume. So the VAL part of the calculation means value. Don't see how it could go to zero though. Unless it only seemed that way because the scaling.
