Uncle! Have had enough! Wonder if any of you use a program or app to trade using multiple monitors? I use Windows 10 and it crashes literally every other day. Then have to spend 15 minutes putting charts back to the monitor it was at, resizing to fit etc. Windows 10 sucks for me for trading. Never, EVER, had any other OS crash like this POS.

I had the same problems with Windows 10. Crashing all the time with unclear reasons. Took a very long time (trying everything) and caused a lot of frustration before I had it solved. Terrible. Turned out to be a defect Samsung SSD (850 EVO 250Gb) disk which made Windows crash. I was looking for software problems but it was a hardware problem. It was something I never thought of. Had to take my computer to the repair center.

I use WinSplit Revolution (https://winsplit-revolution.en.softonic.com:443/) to position the charts on my screen with a hot-key. Once used to it, it works like a gem. However, I use only one screen (40" 4k). Not sure how it works on multiple monitors. But you can try, it's free.

Good luck.

p.s. With NinjaTrader you're bound to Windows. If you're looking for another OS you can look at Unix/Linux or Mac OS. I think TWS from Interactive Brokers is available for Linux & Mac OS and SierraChart runs on Linux & Mac OS (using Wine). Consult respective vendor for more info. I would try to identify & solve the problem (maybe a software driver causing problems) and stay with Windows.

This is just an idea, maybe someone will be able to do it. But I think it would be better to setup small server and routing all the monitors through it rather than just default multiple display thing. Advantage of server can be that you can install Linux server on small device and actually use windows to run on one or more devices under it to run Ninja.

It's just an idea, I haven't done it but one can try it by asking on Ubuntu forums, you will need separate device to act as a server though, it can be as small as those rasp pie setups. One can also bump up power by using server heavy on config.

Maybe someone has already tried this, some expert might be able to help.

Maybe, just maybe

I used app called Dexpot on my old laptop. Hot keys are supported. Worked pretty smoothly. But it was on win 7. Maybe you should downgrade to 7.

I have a Windows 8.1 but it only has 3GB of available RAM and my BookMap needs at least 4 so stuck with Windows 10.

Hey, you have a hardware issue for sure.

from logical and cost perspective troubleshoot:

First power supply, these are critical. they can work but not good causing crash on load. they are cheap. i usually replace min every year, nothing crazy just a cheapo 450w works fine, no more than $40. got on old one around then swap and test it.

my second suspect is ram, either not enough or defective. Ram can be good on low loads and when it gets heavy can act up. if you dont have extra memory to test it goes down in price cheaper than beer.

Next is hard drive, although that will usually cause performance or catastrophic issue on heavy io. ssd go cheaper than vodka.

Next video card if it cant handle it but that would cause other issue so doubt it.

last motherboard, nobody wants to hear that but it happens.

i using win 10/4gb/i3 non-ssd. 256MB video caard. 3x 24in LCD. i use all monitors with lots of apps daily no crash. it doesnt get reboot for weeks at a time.

the only thing is screen position that is hit or miss based on your app, many have a "profile" you can set and load if it changes.

anyway hope it helps

aw this thread is in my forte :P
i do something similar. this works on server or pc, headless or not
-Server - vmware - windows guest os.
-or headless pc with win 10.

i have my bare workstation with monitors. this RDP to win10 system i have my apps on. so i work out of remote desktop exclusively. Cool thing is i can roam pc and still leave exactly where left off. HOWEVER, icon and window positioning is a bloody nightmare when roaming of different monitor size but for me im fine resizing on the occasion i let it happen.

win10 handles multi monitor over rdp much better than 7

You've already had some decent answers thrown out on here regarding your issue so this may be repeating some of what you've already seen but.....I doubt your issue is exclusively tied to Windows 10.

I have been running 6 monitors since mid year in 2012, first on Windows 7 and then I upgraded to Windows 10 when they were offering a "Free" upgrade.

At that same time I also upgraded my CPU, motherboard and memory and kept the original case, power supply, graphics cards and monitors (I use six 24" 1920 x 1080 Acer led monitors).

I have since updated my graphics drivers (many times) and have followed along with Windows 10 updates as they moved along but honestly.......I have never had a "crash" the way you describe.

There have been times when I added a new indicator that suddenly turned NT-8 into a ginormous memory pig, but I simply deleted the indicator and moved on.

Without more details it's difficult to say what the issue is with your machine.

Hopefully you can get it worked out, having to sort out your screens every time that happens would no doubt be frustrating as hell.

Good luck.
