Guys, I am looking for VPS or Cloud server recommendations. I am an average PC user, so the ease of setting up is a factor.

I am planning to set up an automated trading with MultiCharts. The idea is to trade many algos on many instruments, so obviously any downtime would be undesirable, that's why I am considering this setup. Still not sure if I should go the easy way and simply go with Amazon Cloud. I was also looking at ForexVPS, which seems like a well priced service as well. Most VPS hosting services are quite complicated technically and require an IT professional to set up. Which is not a problem for me if it offers advantages in terms of reliability etc. I am planning to trade 15-minute to daily bars, so the speed is not a major issue.

Anyway, any recommendations would be highly appreciated.

AWS gives you individual infrastructure components so you can build whatever you want on a pay-as-you-go basis. It is great if you want to build a high-availability infrastructure or need expensive infrastructure for only a short time. But it is far from simple, especially if you do it right. If you just want to spin-up a single, long-running machine, then AWS is likely overkill and you'll be paying for a lot of what you don't need.

In general, a VPS is a simple ready-to-go server that you can just log into. If you are non-technical I would recommend a VPS over AWS.

If you use an introducing broker, they may offer hosting or have a partnership with a VPS company.

You could try https://www.speedytradingservers.com/
I never needed a vps, but I heard a lot of good things about them.
Best!

I am currently looking and asking questions at mytradehost.com. They are somewhat more expensive, but have more options than speedy in their VPS packages.

After researching the options for a few hours I realize that while cheaper services are... well, cheaper they will turn out more expensive. In terms of crashes, missed trades and missed stops. SO I am very careful here.

what is the benefit? if micro seconds are the difference between you being profitable or not then you will end up losing inthe long run as the barriers for your speed increase as well as your competition will get just that much faster and what if the vpn goes down?

can you give me a list of why this is beneficial for you as a retail trader?

thank you

Go with AWS. If you want a cheaper version than AWS, go with Oracle Cloud (OCI). OCI has an "Always Free" tier.

Also, you won't find a better fault-tolerant solution than that offered by the aforementioned public cloud providers.

why not just pay 500 a month for the direct cme vpn tunnel?

still no one seems to be able to say waht the advantages are for routing through a vpn. you still have risk checks that slow you down and yeah
maybe you skip some hops but remember when your ORDER at the CME hits the CONVENIENCE gateway it is randomly BATCHED before getting fifo.. do you understand that?

from the convenience gateway to the fifo priority on the markeet segment gateway it is just white noise and it is this white noise combined with cash indexes that the hft use to just print money and make liqudity.

here is a link to the CME direct tunnel VPM. last i checked it was 500 a month.

question?

is using the cloud in your capacity a way to set up automatic trading programs without your own server? this way all those orders and the program runs in the cloud versus client side your machine but also not server side at your FCM or your execution platform? it is not really about speed? would be nice if someone would explain this just curious and open minded to the reason?

My main concern is reliability. The idea is to run many automated strategies on many instruments, so eventually any down time can be a big headache. Many VPS guarantee 99.999% up time, and I suspect it is more reliable than running everything from my own PC. There is also licencing issue: if I want to run one MC at home for testing and another on the cloud I need two licenses. On the other hand MC allows running multiple instances on one machine, virtual or physical. So I can set up everything on VPS and run all trading and testing via remote desktop application.
