Microsoft's Windows 8 is coming soon - brace yourself - Apr. 4, 2011

From the article;

Windows 8 will operate on the ARM microchip architecture, the technology that powers most of the world's smartphones and tablets. In the past, Windows has always required devices to have a processor built on the x86 platform, which Intel (INTC, Fortune 500) or AMD (AMD, Fortune 500) designs.

Analysts predict Microsoft will release Windows 8 to the public sometime between this summer and the first quarter of 2012, with a tablet-compatible version likely to come in the summer of 2012.

About 54% of PCs currently run the 10-year-old Windows XP, and 11% are on the five-year-old Vista, according to Net Applications.

And I thought @MetalTrade was the last Windows XP hold out....

I'm on XP (on my Mac) forever unless Win 8 brings out something really good and may-be Unix/Linux-like.

If there has been no Win XP, I would have settled for Win 2K forever; Win 2K was, and is still good.

My computer came with Vista installed. I recently seriously considered upgrading to Windows 7 but now, I guess I'll hold out for 8. If NT 7 ran on MacOS I'd be there in a heart beat.

TMFT,

I just remember now, that you've not responded to my PM request on your RangeATM Strategy tool (off-topic here, sorry).

I'll be on windows XP until I get a mac. My girlfriend has windows 7, that I told her not to get and she has problems. Recently something happened to where you can only get sound threw the headphones, and the only way to fix this problem is to factory restore it. What a stupid reason to loose everything on your comp.

I'm not a win7 user but w/ XP/2k you can do a restore from the OS disk where all of your data remains intact. At least look into running SFC (system file checker).
